How We Got Here

Elegant. Classic. Affordable.

In the early 1960’s, Creola and Ernest Lewis started a small floral business called Lewis Floral Specialties in Arkansas City, Ks. Though Creola enjoyed doing fresh cut flowers for weddings and funerals, Valentine’s Day roses, and all the holiday seasonals in between, she couldn’t help but think that there was more to the business then waiting for a customer to come in the door for such specialties in rural Kansas. She had a vision. After serving two tours in Vietnam, Her son, Milton, was back home. Now seemed the opportune time for Creola to put her plan into action. So over dinner one night, Creola, Ernest, Milton, and his new bride Jeanette all came up with a plan of action. And Royalty Flowers was born! Through Milton’s diligence and persuasion, Royalty Flowers took a purchase order from Dillons Grocery store chain and they were up and running. They did a year long production run and would deliver their silk flowers (made of plastic at that time) to the store chain. That was May of 1969. And that has been the model of Royalty Flowers ever since. Now there have been a few changes over the years. From life changing events to reinventing the way we do business. We no longer deal with chain stores. Try being a small business in a niche market and deal with the likes of Wal-, well never mind that. Another story for another time. Now fast forward to 1992. Chain stores aside, time to reinvent the wheel. So back to the drawing board. Keep the fires burning and we’ll find another direction Milton says. And we did! Small towns in America are always looking for a way to bring more commerce into town, and we were glad to oblige. So we cut across the state of Oklahoma and found fourteen mom and pop businesses. From Ponca City to Seminole, Ok. Enid, Ok. to Miami, Ok. and small dots in between. It was an exciting time in our history! We thought that we would put our silk flowers in these locations on consignment and pick up what was left in the first couple of weeks in June. Except we ended up running trucks all May, and there was nothing left in June to pick up. And the idea of a Factory Outlet was born. And here we are almost fifty years later. Still doing business the way we always have with a year long production and a one month sales season during the month of May. Do you know, most people think we have everything made in China and shipped to our store? Not a chance! We are made in America! Our Factory Outlet store is located in Ponca City, Ok. and that is also where we do our production. As you see, like any small business, there have been triumphs and failures. But Royalty Flowers has never closed its doors! Over time, we realized that we would rather relate to our customers directly and hear their stories, laugh with them as we catch up, and even cry with them when they have suffered the loss of a loved one. To us, you're not just another customer, you are our extended family and the month of May has always been family reunion time. If this is the first time you have heard about us, my wife Trinity and I would like to invite you to come by and see us. There is always something new being put in our showroom. And if you need something special, just ask. We’re here for you!
